As part of a monthly series, we're delighted to follow Benjamin Barker's journey to the opening of King's Leadership Academy Wavertree, Liverpool
May 2025
Welcome to the latest update on our journey toward the opening of King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree in September 2025. We’re excited to share our progress and recent events that bring us closer to welcoming our first Year 7 cohort.
researchEd 2025
King’s Leadership Academy Warrington hosted their 4th annual researchEd event this past month. With a range of high profiles speakers, it provided the perfect environment to hear the latest on pedagogy, teaching and technology. The Trust’s founding school welcomed over 400 delegates in late April and this years event was the best yet.
It was inspiring to hear from Professor John Hattie as the events keynote. Professor Hattie’s work is internationally acclaimed. His influential 2008 book Visible Learning: A synthesis of over 800 Meta-Analyses Relating to Achievement is believed to be the world’s largest evidence-based study into the factors which improve student learning. Involving more than 1/3rd million students from around the world and bringing together 100,000 smaller studies.
Breaking ground
We were joined by year 6 pupils from King’s Northway Primary Academy as we broke ground on the former Sony HQ site as work began on our temporary accommodation in early April.
It was fantastic to not only begin on site but also welcome the pupils who will be calling King’s Wavertree their home next school year. You can read the news article about the day here.

Principal Mr Barker said: “We are delighted to have the funding agreement in place. When the new building is complete, it will provide state-of-the-art classrooms and facilities and be a fantastic learning environment for our students.
“Since announcing our intention to open the co-educational King’s Wavertree, there has been strong interest and support from the local community and across the city.
“We are now focused on letting the 210 parents who have an offer of a place at the school know the good news so we can start preparing to welcome our first cohort of pioneering students in September.”
Transition Packs
We are excited to share our Transition Guide with parents next week as we kick of our first of 3 transition events in the run up to our September start.
Not only will families receive the latest information on the new build, but they will also get measured for uniforms as well as being able to meet some of our new staff! Parents who have a place confirmed with us (through the LCC admissions team) will have received an email and text message with how to book on these events.
