The following article comes from an interview with Beisy Matos, Head of Languages at Peponi House, Kenya.

Why is global education important to you and your school?

Global education is central to our vision at Peponi House. We believe that learning languages and connecting with other cultures prepares our pupils to become open-minded, empathetic, and responsible global citizens. Through exposure to diverse perspectives, our pupils learn that their education extends beyond the classroom and that they are part of a wider international community.

How has the Global School Alliance benefited you as a teacher and the opportunities for your school?

The Global School Alliance has enabled us to build meaningful partnerships, such as those with Swanage Primary School in England and San José Corazonistas in Spain. These collaborations have enriched my teaching practice with fresh ideas and intercultural projects, while giving our pupils unique opportunities to connect with their peers abroad. It has also allowed our school to establish exciting initiatives, including exchange visits and collaborative learning experiences.

What benefits do you think this award will have on the whole school community

Receiving this award will be a source of pride and recognition for our entire school community. It highlights our shared commitment to cultural exchange and international collaboration. The award will inspire pupils, staff, and parents alike by showing that our efforts in global learning are valued and celebrated beyond our school walls.

How will you use this award to motivate students and staff?

We will use the award as a tangible symbol of what can be achieved when we work together with passion and purpose. For students, it will be a reminder that their voices and cultural curiosity matter; for staff, it will encourage continued innovation in teaching and collaboration. Celebrating this recognition together will strengthen our sense of purpose and teamwork.

What are your plans to develop your international work?

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our partnerships and create more opportunities for student exchanges, joint projects, and virtual collaborations. We plan to build on the success of our trip to Spain and explore further connections with schools worldwide. Our goal is to embed global education even more deeply into our curriculum, ensuring every pupil develops the skills and awareness needed to thrive in an interconnected world.
