China Immersive Camps: Exploring Cultures
Over the next couple of weeks, students from North Halifax Grammar School and Oasis Academy Enfield will be arriving in China to take part in China Immersion Camps for UK schools. The programme offers a structured, supported opportunity for students to experience cultural immersion in China, learning alongside Chinese peers through shared projects, workshops, and daily interaction. Based across Nanjing and Foshan, these 2026 Winter Camps are designed to help young people develop global awareness, confidence, and intercultural understanding — going far beyond a traditional school trip.
What is the China Immersion Camp?
The UK–China Friendship Camp is a six-day immersion programme for students where UK and Chinese students live and learn together as a community. English is used throughout, making the experience accessible while still deeply immersive.Students collaborate on project-based learning, take part in cultural exchange activities, and build genuine friendships with local peers — helping them gain a real insight into modern Chinese life.
Global Learning in Action
During the week, students visit key cultural and historical sites including the Jiangning Imperial Silk Museum and the Imperial Examination Museum, where learning is brought to life through interactive and creative activities.
These camps also explore cultural comparisons, including:
- British and Chinese education systems
- Architecture and garden design
- Food culture and dining traditions
- Literature and cultural icons, from Shakespeare to Tang Xianzu
This approach helps students develop a deeper, more balanced understanding of China — rooted in experience rather than observation. This makes the programme a practical and secure option for schools exploring international school trips to China for the first time.
What is included in an immersive camp?
- Global School Alliance’s China Immersion Camps offer UK schools a unique opportunity to experience China in the most meaningful way possible.
- Small groups of 5, 10 or 15 students spend a full week immersed in Chinese culture alongside local students of a similar age
- Each student is paired with a dedicated buddy who becomes their close companion for the week.
- Together, students take part in cultural classes, team building and sightseeing activities, and share full days and evenings, building genuine friendships across cultures.
- Welcome and closing ceremonies, complete with gift exchanges, celebrate these connections and the bonds formed.
- With all transport, meals and activities included, and full organisational support from GSA, these camps provide a rich, unforgettable cultural experience with minimal planning required from teachers.
