The UK government has confirmed the continuation of the Turing Scheme for the 2026 to 2027 academic year.
The announcement comes following the release of the updated UK International Education Strategy (IES), with the aim of boosting education exports to £40 billion per year by 2030, underlining the strategic importance of student mobility and global education across the sector.
The Turing Scheme is the UK’s flagship mobility programme administered by the Department for Education, designed to provide disadvantaged students with the opportunities to develop their skills, gain international experience and boost their employability.
Since the scheme launched in 2021, the Global School Alliance has supported more than 70 schools across the UK to access a total of over £2.8 million in Turing Scheme funding.
Thomas Camilleri, Global School Alliance Founder & CEO, said: “Across our network of schools, the Turing Scheme funding has provided more than 2,000 students with life-changing opportunities that simply would not have been possible otherwise. These immersive visits to partner schools provide unique experiences that enable young people to develop invaluable life skills – such as empathy, resilience, and intercultural understanding – that extend far beyond the classroom.”
For the 2026 to 2027 academic year, the core principles remain the same, but the aims have been refined to strengthen the focus on impact, inclusion and value for money:
- Enhancing transferable skills: focus developing key transferable life skills, such as communication and adaptability.
- Widening opportunity: widening access for disadvantaged and SEND students.
- Driving value for money: ensures funding delivers real benefits through accountability and measurable outcomes.
The updated guidance offers clearer application prompts, refreshed assessment criteria aligned to the scheme’s priorities and greater emphasis on justifying placement destinations.
The application window will open on 26th January 2026 and close on 16th March 2026.
