Yesterday, the Primary Global Student Council held its first meeting of 2026, uniting young learners from around the world in an inspiring and meaningful online event.
Exploring the theme of ‘How are we connected to people and places across the world?’, students reflected on how their similarities and differences shape their communities and influence their understanding of the wider world.
Pupils from Kirkhill Primary School in Scotland, The King’s School in Gloucester and Mektebim Koleji Edirne Kampüsü in Turkey shared thoughtful presentations that offered a fascinating insight into daily life, education and global connections in their school communities.
Students in Turkey shared how meaningful the experience was for them, with one pupil saying, “I was very happy to talk to children from other countries. It made me feel that the world is like one big family.” Another reflected, “I learned that even though we live in different places, we have many things in common,” while a third added, “It was exciting to share our ideas and listen to students from around the world.”
Laura Neill, a teacher at Kirkhill Primary School, commented on the success of the session, saying, “What a successful first meeting of the year for the Global Student Council! Our pupils were so excited to connect with other schools and countries and found the presentations fascinating. There was a relaxed and respectful atmosphere which pupils said put them at ease.”
The discussions will continue online as students build on their learning and connections ahead of their next Primary Global Student Council meeting in March. The upcoming theme will focus on cultures and traditions, asking, ‘What can we learn from each other’s cultures, identities and traditions?’
This first meeting of 2026 set a strong foundation for meaningful global collaboration and understanding in the months ahead.
