Statment from The Female Lead:

“The Female Lead is thrilled to be involved in this event with the Global Schools Alliance, looking at how schools can promote equality, diversity and inclusion. As an educational charity, we empower women to take the lead in every stage of their lives, and that starts with school. Our work is grounded in founder Edwina Dunn’s heritage; we bring data and evidence to the equality challenge, making sure we learn and respond with helpful interventions.

We know the problems surrounding inequality start early on in our lives, and that’s why we want to help change the mindset of our young people. At the end of 2021 we launched The Female Lead Volume II book, which features original interviews and photography with 60 incredible women from around the world. Names in the book include Australia’s First Female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard; Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Nadia Murad; Founder of the ‘Me Too’ Movement, Tarana Burke; Britain’s Most Successful Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey; Brit Award-winning Little Mix-member, Jade Thirlwall; and Actress & Campaigner, Geena Davis.

Women’s stories aren’t told often enough, so we want to make sure young people have access to a whole range of positive female role models. As with The Female Lead Volume I, this book is being donated to schools, colleges and universities in the UK and USA, and all proceeds from book sales will fund The Female Lead’s educational foundation. You can nominate your school or university to receive a free copy of the book here.

On top of this, we’re actively encouraging schools all over the world to start their own Female Lead Society. Any school can sign up to receive our free resources, which is packed with information on different topics including: ‘How to Create a Safer Society for both boys and girls’; ‘Diversity and Inclusion’; ‘Building Mental Fitness’; and ‘Cultivating your assertiveness’.

Finally, we’re excited to be relaunching our #DisruptYourFeed campaign on International Women’s Day 2022. We’re encouraging young people to regain control of their social media feed and create healthier scrolling habits. By working together to disrupt the algorithms, young people can offset the content showcasing airbrushed celebrity lives, and diversify it with real, high achieving women. You can find out more about this research here.
