Fulham Cross Academy

Fulham Cross Academy, a STEM specialist secondary school in London, is deepening its partnership with The Global School in Argentina. Executive Principal Sally Brooks has recently returned from a Leadership Delegation to explore the education system and plan meaningful cross-curricular exchanges.

Meet the delegate

I am Sally Brooks, Executive Principal at the Fulham Cross Academy Trust.

I took part as my GSA lead was insistent I should experience the delegation prior to our school’s visit to Argentina next year (he did the school’s first GSA delegation and visit).

I now ‘get’ how powerful the delegation is to making the partnership powerful, meaningful and lasting. It was great to experience so much to really bespoke the experience for the children, prior to their visit.

Key findings & observations

The delegation was incredible! I took something away from every school visit that will enhance the educational experience for my own students, whilst being immersed in the culture of Argentina. I did over 15k steps every day so we really did maximise every minute.

The bi-lingual nature of all the schools we visited, really stood out and their absolute commitment to this. I did realised we are lot further developed, in terns of tech and approaches to pedagogy.

I loved the independence that some schools foster in their children right from the age of 8 – the autonomy that students had over this was really valuable and I would love to think about how we can initiate some of this.

Strengthening the partnership

Meeting the students and understanding their excitement for the partnership and the teacher vision has meant better planning from the outset. The logistics will be much easier now as we understand their access to tech.

Strategic Focus Areas

  • Impact of global partnership work on the school community
  • Creating a culture of independence from the outset
  • Collaborative work across curriculum areas
  • 6th form community work

What would you say to other school leaders?

Do it – it is life-changing

How does partnering with the GSA strengthen your school’s global outlook?

To think about futures beyond the local and national context. There is an opportunity to think globally about their futures and they should!
